Reading: Students will respond to a variety of books to display their understanding of what they have read using various graphic organisers including, concept maps, PMI charts & flow charts. They will be explicitly taught a range of comprehension strategies including analysing, inferring and synthesising during whole class and small target teaching groups.
Writing: Students will be using a range of graphic organisers to respond to their 'seeds' to assist them in developing their ideas for writing. Persuasive writing will be our focus this term and students will have an opportunity to publish their persuasive writing piece. Information reports will also be introduced and students will be involved in workshops that will aim to develop their ability to write a clear message for their intended audience.
Spelling: We will continue using the spelling approach, SMART Spelling. Students will be involved in daily spelling activities with a specific focus. We will continue exploring various graphs, digraphs, trigraphs, quadgraphs and split digraphs. At the end of each week students will be tested on their words and there will be weekly homework to support this approach.
